Slow Food Seattle Book Club: "Relish" by Lucy Knisley
Chat with fellow food and book lovers at the Slow Food Seattle book club! We are a casual, easy-going group and all are welcome to attend.
Our first book for Jan 2014 is "Relish: My Life in the Kitchen" by comic artist Lucy Knisley. This is a graphic memoir/cookbook illustrating (literally!) her life so far via her experiences with food. The official book blurb is below along with a peek inside the book.
We will be meeting on Thu, Jan 9 at 6:30pm at Zoka Coffee Roasters on Blakeley behind U-Village. Please see the RSVP links below for more specifics.
Our book clubs are a great way to get to know people in the Slow Food organization. We meet every other month to discuss a food title, and we're always happy to meet new book and food lovers!
In order to reserve space appropriately, we are asking for RSVPs by Jan 3. You can RSVP here on our Facebook page or here on our Eventbrite page for those not on FB. Thanks!
Book description:
Lucy Knisley loves food. The daughter of a chef and a gourmet, this talented young cartoonist comes by her obsession honestly. In her forthright, thoughtful, and funny memoir, Lucy traces key episodes in her life thus far, framed by what she was eating at the time and lessons learned about food, cooking, and life. Each chapter is bookended with an illustrated recipe—many of them treasured family dishes, and a few of them Lucy's original inventions.
A welcome read for anyone who ever felt more passion for a sandwich than is strictly speaking proper, Relish is a graphic novel for our time: it invites the reader to celebrate food as a connection to our bodies and a connection to the earth, rather than an enemy, a compulsion, or a consumer product.
