2019 Annual Members Meeting and Potluck
This Sunday, November 3rd / 4:00-7:00 pm
Montlake Community Center
Slow Food members and friends are invited to our 2019 Annual Meeting and Potluck on Sunday, November 3rd at the Montlake Community Center. This year our featured guest speaker is local fisherman and Slow Food Snailblazer Kevin Scribner.
4:00 Potluck Begins
November is Thank a Farmer Month so we encourage everyone to bring a dish featuring local produce and ingredients. Consider bringing a tag with a short description or story about your meal.
Slow Food Seattle is serving up Makah Ozette potatoes that our green-thumbed Presidium Coordinator Gerry Warren grew especially for the occasion. Our Advisory Council’s Chef Varin Keokitvon is bringing Kaipen Lao Crispy River Weed, inspired by an Ark of Taste item he discovered in Laos this summer.
To reduce our carbon footprint, please bring your own non-disposable plate, cup, utensils and napkin. Our goal this year is to reduce waste at our gatherings and we truly appreciate your support!
5:30 “Deep Pleasure from Seafood with Dignity” Presented by Kevin Scribner
Kevin Scribner is a Slow Food Snailblazer, a leader of the national Slow Fish USA movement, and serves on the Slow Food USA Policy Steering Committee and the Slow Food Equity, Inclusion and Justice (EIJ) Working Group. He has extensive experience in natural resource planning and management, community cultural development, alternative food systems, ecological restoration and commercial fishing. He also serves on the Policy Council of the Marine Fish Conservation Network, and represents Salmon-Safe on the Columbia Basin Partnership Task Force, serving alongside representatives from many Pacific Northwest tribes.
We’ll talk about:
best practices in thinking about the ethics of seafood today, both locally and globally,
ways to make more ethical seafood decisions as a consumer, and
how to get involved with advocacy.
