What to Expect:

  • Our work will vary based on the weather, but could include pruning, weeding, wheelbarrowing, planting, and harvesting.

  • CitySoil is happy to to provide alternate tasks depending on physical comfort level.

  • We’ll start the afternoon with a farm tour, stretching, and a project overview.

  • We usually take a rest and water break half-way through the work party session, but folks are also encouraged to break on their own additionally as needed.

  • We will learn about organic practices and how CitySoil transforms resources recycled from their waste system into compost.

  • And…snacking! Fruit availability varies, but we look forward to sharing some apples during our time together.

About CitySoil Farm

CitySoil Farm is a 1.5 acre teaching farm and native tree nursery that showcases sustainable farming and accessible, local food. It is located at the King County Wastewater Treatment Plant in Renton. Once an unused area of the treatment plant’s grounds, it has been transformed into an urban teaching space devoted to environmental education to promote community food systems with imagination. CitySoil takes advantage of resources recycled from their waste system with recycled water and compost made from Loop biosolids and gives new life to the neglected soil’s ecosystem.

The farm is managed in partnership between King County Wastewater Treatment Division, King Conservation District, DIRTCorps, and White Center Food Bank.
